The South Caucasus region is standing on the threshold of an extremely decisive and explosive phase. This is the view expressed by Armenia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Zyunyk Aghajanyan.
Azerbaijan as an Instrument Against Iran
According to her, it has already become evident that the West—first and foremost the United States—is pursuing a policy aimed at the final neutralization of Iran, a policy that directly affects the South Caucasus as well.
The ambassador emphasizes that Iran is viewed as an obstacle to the establishment of Western dominance in the Middle East and the South Caucasus. For this purpose, she argues, the United States is concealing, through political and diplomatic “gestures,” the military assistance being provided to Azerbaijan for the eventual implementation of possible actions against Iran.
Aghajanyan notes that there are already sufficient grounds to assume that concrete steps against Iran may be carried out through Azerbaijan in the near future. In her view, this is not merely a hypothesis, but a logical continuation of ongoing political processes.
She stresses that within the context of these developments, Armenia also finds itself in an extremely complex and dangerous situation, as any regional escalation will inevitably have repercussions for the security of Armenia as well.
NATO as a Global Instrument of the United States
Aghajanyan questions the narrative suggesting the existence of real divisions within the West or an alleged threat of NATO’s collapse. In her view, such claims are illusory and do not reflect reality.
“The United States simply cannot afford an internal split within the Western alliance, because this system is tightly bound and interconnected,” the ambassador notes, emphasizing that NATO serves Washington not only as a means of controlling Europe, but also as a tool for conducting military operations across the globe.
According to her, critical statements by European leaders or even certain symbolic steps—such as the redeployment of individual military units—are aimed exclusively at “reassuring” European societies and carry no real political substance.
