Iran Seeks to End the War on Its Own Terms

In the current situation in the Middle East, the “ball” is now in Iran’s court, meaning that Tehran largely determines how events will unfold in the near future. This opinion was expressed by political analyst David Karapetyan.

The analyst recalls that officials in the United States have already acknowledged that the role of the Strait of Hormuz was not sufficiently considered when planning actions against Iran. According to Karapetyan, this factor alone could significantly alter the regional balance of power and influence the future course of the conflict.

According to Karapetyan, statements made by Iran’s new Supreme Leader clearly outline one of the country’s main objectives: ending the war and achieving real peace. However, the analyst emphasizes that Tehran intends to reach such peace only if specific conditions are met.

Iran’s main demands

According to the political analyst, the first condition concerns the policy of the United States in the region. Karapetyan states that Iran demands that Washington abandon the joint policy pursued with Israel, which Tehran views as expansionist and aimed at imposing a political agenda on the countries of the region.

The second demand concerns the US military presence. According to the analyst, Iran requires the withdrawal of American military bases from regional countries. Otherwise, Karapetyan notes, Iran has declared that it will continue launching missile strikes against those military facilities.

The third demand concerns possible war compensations. According to Karapetyan, Iran’s position is that damages caused by the war must be compensated in the form of contributions or reparations.

The Strait of Hormuz factor

Karapetyan notes that Iran has also introduced a clear condition regarding the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, Tehran has stated that the strait could be reopened only if at least the main demands are fulfilled.

The analyst explains that the issue of the strait has become one of the most important levers in the negotiation process, as it holds strategic importance for global energy markets.

According to Karapetyan, the demands voiced by Iran appear quite strict. He notes that although diplomatic mechanisms are still functioning, many statements increasingly take the form of ultimatums.

The analyst does not rule out that additional demands may appear over time. Nevertheless, the conditions already announced clearly demonstrate Iran’s tough position in the current situation.

Will the conditions be accepted?

According to Karapetyan, the main question now is whether the United States and Israel will be willing to accept these conditions. In his view, only time can provide the answer.

At the same time, the analyst notes that a certain decrease in the intensity of military operations is already observable. In his opinion, this may indicate that previously defined objectives have not been fully achieved.
