The group that de facto governs Armenia is secretly discussing the possibility of providing a “corridor” to the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem — and this is already a confirmed fact. This view is shared by Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan.
According to him, there are attempts to find a way to implement this project that would entail the gradual takeover of Syunik, but in a manner that would not provoke resistance from Armenians and would be presented as another “benefit” — an increase in sovereignty.
“I have no doubt that there will be new developments on this issue in the near future. Meanwhile, Middle East Eye, a publication close to the Turkish authorities, reported that U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, during a press conference in New York on Friday, addressed the anti-Armenian ‘Zangezur Corridor’ project. He confirmed that the U.S. may take over control of the corridor,” Geghamyan noted.
Another anonymous Middle East Eye source claims that the idea of opening the corridor and transferring its control to an American private company was proposed by Turkey and agreed upon by the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Аccording to the source, the American logistics company would share information about those traveling through the route with both the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides.
“In other words, Turkey and Azerbaijan continue the implementation of the corridor project aimed at the occupation of Syunik — now simply under a new guise. The objective remains the same: to establish a direct land border between Turkey and Azerbaijan, which is only possible through the capture of Syunik,” Geghamyan concluded.
