ANC Will Not Form an Alliance with Kocharyan or Sargsyan Forces

The Armenian National Congress (ANC) has no plans to form political blocs with the parties of former presidents Robert Kocharyan or Serzh Sargsyan, Deputy Chairman of the ANC Levon Zurabyan stated during hearings on the impeachment of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Zurabyan noted that seven years of Pashinyan’s rule have led the country to catastrophic consequences. However, despite numerous anti-government protests and movements, removing him from power has not been possible. According to Zurabyan, the reason is that the people do not want to “swap one bad option for another” by returning the former authorities to power. “Until our people see a movement with leaders they trust and a serious program for transforming Armenia, they will not stand against Pashinyan,” he emphasized.

According to him, there is currently no political party or team capable of independently building such a movement and possessing revolutionary potential. It is essential to create such a force in order to achieve broad consolidation and form a nationwide movement in Armenia. He stressed that the ANC does not seek a leading role — the party is open to cooperation with other political forces.

Zurabyan also underlined that any cooperation must be based on realistic and pragmatic political principles. It is not about the “fictional peace” that brought the country to its current state, but about a real program founded on geopolitical balance.

“We need to build a railway connecting Yerevan to Meghri, develop fiber-optic communication lines, and improve road infrastructure. In addition, Armenia must launch serious technological initiatives. Without leading positions in specific sectors and niche technologies, the country will not be able to secure a stable place under the sun in the global economy,” Zurabyan added.
